She is expected to be calm, composed and poised. She is seen as the flimsy flower who forever needs to be protected. She is asked to be a mother, a muse and a mistress- their dirty little secret. When did she succumb to to these ranks?

She is so much more.

It takes a dauntless heart to look into the eyes of misogyny and remain the poised dame that she is. It takes an intelligent mind to see through the prejudices you blindly follow and yet seemingly remain the damsel you need to make yourself the knight you dream to be. Let us not forget that it takes the visionary in her to look beyond what your narrow eyes can ever see and identify the potential for glory in the world she lives in.

As a woman, it infuriates me and at the same time kindles a need to speak up each time I notice even the most subliminal instances of misogyny and social prejudice. The fact that even in today's world, women are still considered only to be an embodiment of purity and beauty, the vessel of all things maternal in nature and a gentle being. Sure, women are all of this, in fact, I am proud to say that women are all of this. The issue however begins when women are considered to be just this.

The simple XX chromosome is a humble beginning to a roller-coaster ride of a life. A woman, for the longest time, depended upon others for her own identity. She was always her father's daughter, her husband's wife and her son's mother. But today she has the chance to be anything she chooses to be, and yet the stigma of a woman rising in position and power stops her from achieving her dreams and the success that she deserves.

This notion of what a woman should be needs to change. The broadening of perspective is now not just important but it has reached the point where it is of utmost and urgent need. However, widening the perspective of the society at large cannot happen over night and in spite of the efforts that we may put in, the proportional change in society may not be drastic. But as they say, every drop helps form the puddle; every word makes an impact. I can only hope that my words and actions will instill a new thought in the mind of others.

Here is my promise, one that I hope you all will take up as well. I promise to not succumb to society's norms and conventions alone. I promise to be the version of myself that will inspire another woman and enable society to change their mind.

Nothing can stop a woman who has her heart set on her goal.

Set your goals today.

Let us spark a revolution with a simple decision to be proactive.

Until next time,

The Invisible Wordsmith
